Friday hours, Saturday hours, and Farmer's Markets, oh my!
I feel like a broken record! The weather is *still* crazy. It frosted last night after they told us it wouldn't... Heidi spent the day yesterday making sure most things were covered up, but it was so windy, we're not yet sure if any blew off. For sure, we likely lost the last few tomatoes that we'd put out. Thankfully, we'd been pessimistic and were prepared to lose those first ones, so it's not too big a surprise. Last year, we'd put out 800 plants and that late freeze killed the majority of them and set the rest back so far that the johnson grass overtook them before they got big enough to produce. This year, we have only lost 90 so far and we're going to be careful setting the rest out in stages so we don't suffer so much if there's yet another freeze. Such is the life of the farmer, but it's really a blessing in some ways, keeping us constantly reminded that God is sovereign and we are not ![]()
Those snow peas are starting to produce, but likely not enough to sell any this weekend. Soon, I promise!
Yesterday, Heidi was at the opening day of the Georgetown farmer's market. Thanks to any of you who were there! It went quite well. We weren't sure how busy it would be, and didn't want to pick a ton of stuff that would go to waste, so she ended up selling out of spinach in half an hour, and selling out of lettuce by the end! Next week, we'll definitely take more...
This Friday (today) we'll start officially being open at the store a few hours (10 - 1) as Heidi will be there harvesting for tomorrow. Feel free to come out, there will be already-harvested stuff as we get it, and if you want something that she hasn't harvested yet, she can go out in the field and pick it for you "custom". Can't beat that!
Saturday we will officially be open from 10 - 4. Heidi may or may not make it to the Round Rock farmer's market this week, but in general we plan to attend. Look for us at Sun City as well, next Tuesday morning.
For this week (today and tomorrow, Saturday the 4th) it will again look a lot like last week:
Fresh lettuce mix
Young spinach
Young swiss chard
Baby beets with big beet greens
Fresh cilantro and dill
Pecans
Honey
Goat milk soap
Salsas and relishes
Farm fresh eggs
Plants for your own garden:
Tomatoes
Peppers
Cucumbers
*Compost* In the last couple of weeks, Eli's compost selling has really taken off. We may have to load up another few truck-fulls. It is good, aged horse manure compost and Eli is selling it to earn money to go to camp this summer. So
if you need compost for your garden, be sure to check it out!
See you there!
