What's going on this week...

Tomorrow, Friday, we will NOT be at the store.  We will be on a stock-up trip.

  • First, we are going to San Antonio to pick up some produce.  Pardon a little digression:  we have absolutely no intention of trying to compete with HEB.  That's not what we are here for.  Anyone can go to the big produce terminal in San Antonio and get cases of whatever from wherever and sell it with or without telling you where it's from.  We have no intention of trying to make a living doing that, you might as well just go get it at HEB because they can sell it cheaper.  However, we don't have any problem with occasionally providing you access to stuff we didn't grow, as long as it's from Texas (that's our definition of "local"), as long as it's fresh from a farm, and *preferably* we know exactly who grew it and how.  So tomorrow, we'll be visiting a small produce distributor that we've dealt with before and we'll see what he has.  He deals with a lot of different producers, but a lot of it is grown on a handful of farms in and around San Antonio and Fredericksburg.  Can't say yet for *sure* what we'll come back with until we see it, but he does have some yellow squash from the valley and some Texas hothouse-grown tomatoes that he says are very good (for hothouse grown tomatoes   We'll see.

  • After San Antonio, we will be heading to Fredericksburg to meet our pepper lady, Carolyn MacArthur (www.thepepperlady.com) to pick up a fresh order of salsas, relishes, and jellies, so there will be more selection, including the really, really hot "hostile" salsa you know you want, and more of the pepper jellies that have been so popular.

  • Lastly, we will be swinging by Llano to re-stock our honey spreads.  We're going to plan on another purchase of gallon honey sometime in the next couple of weeks, so if you are interested in a full gallon (several dollars cheaper than purchasing four separate quarts), let us know.  But for right now, we're just loading up on the "regular" stuff.

Then comes Saturday.  Besides having the store open from 10 - 4, Heidi will be out in Georgetown at the Serendipity Children's Festival at Community Montessori.  It looks to be a real blast, with tons of fun and hands-on activities for the kids, booths of all kinds of things, including Heidi with lettuce, spinach, eggs, compost, and plants.  Check it out if you can...

So, to recap, since this has been so long...

  • Today, Georgetown Farmer's Market right now through 6:30
  • Tomorrow no one will be there, because we'll be out of town stocking up
  • Saturday, Heidi in Georgetown at Serendipity 11 - 5, store open 10 - 4

We will have:

  • Lettuce, Spinach, Swiss Chard, Beets, a wide assortment of herbs, and whatever produce we bring back from San Antonio
  • Eggs
  • Plants - a fresh load of tomato plants, including cherry tomatoes!
  • Compost
  • A fresh selection of salsas, relishes, and jellies
  • A fresh selection of honey and honey spreads

See you soon!

P.S.  Be looking forward to more things available at the store.  In the next couple of weeks we will be restocking our selection of Goat-milk soap, and bringing back Celtic Sea Salt and Organic Cocont Oil.
